We ask that you call the office for the next available openings for the 2, 6 and 12 week courses.  We maintain small classes but they do fill up quickly.

This course is designed to teach the students how to properly shoe a normal horse for their own personal use or as a beginner course to advance into the six or twelve week courses. You will receive training in the classroom, by shoeing live horses and learn the necessary forging techniques. THIS SHORT COURSE IS NOT DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU A PROFESSIONAL FARRIER.

You will receive the equivalent of an eight week course in a six week period, allowing you to spend a shorter time away from home.

You will learn:

How to change horse's mode of travel caused by poor leg and hoof conformation or previous improper shoeing.

How to handle spoiled horses.

How to recognize, prevent and correct lameness.

Basic horse psychology.

How to set up your own business and shoeing rig.

You will also receive:

An in depth study of the anatomy related to proper balance and shoeing of all breeds and types of horses.

Classroom time.

Business Strategy Lectures.

Extensive live shoeing and forging

This course prepares the student further to be a professional farrier. After the six week course you will concentrate your time on perfecting your techniques. You will work with the professional farriers in the the FNRC.

You will learn to use the arc welder in making more professional corrective shoes.

You will learn advanced shoeing techniques for lameness of the leg, hoof repair and leg braces.

Along with continuous live shoeing, classroom and forging each day.

Same as above plus

Tools include anvil of your choice

You must complete the 12 week/Horseshoeing III before enrolling in this course

See Horseshoeing IV page for course description

2-Day Hoof Trim Class for Horse Owners

You provide your own horses and we provide the training, the facility, lodging and meals. While learning to trim your own horses, you will also have the opportunity to work side by side with students taking the shoeing courses that will offer additional and invaluable information.  The trimming classes are limited to 2 people per weekend and do fill up quickly. Please call and send in your deposit to reserve your place on your desired date. You MUST bring your horses.

We feel that one day is not enough, two days is reasonable for horse owners who work have a limited time to be away from home and work, but you are certainly welcome to attend more than 2 days with prior arrangements.

Outside holding pens for your horses and some covered stalls in case of bad weather are available for your short stay. You MUST have a current negative COGGINS report. You are asked to provide your own hay and feed during your stay and leave the stalls clean. You may park your camper and stay in it if you wish but ,sorry, our facility does not have hook ups.

For the tools needed please see the Hand Tools page.
